Charter boat, marina owners fined by OSHA for violations found after fatal explosion

The owners of a charter boat and marina on Lake Norman have been cited by the N.C. Department of Labor for violations found after a fatal explosion and fire in early June.

Championship Yacht Charters was fined $2,800 and Westport Marina in Denver was fined $1,750 by NCDOL's Division of Occupational Safety and Health on Nov. 26, an official with the state department of labor said.

Championship Yacht Charters, owned by former NASCAR crew chief Cliff Champion, operated the Championship II, an 80-foot charter boat that exploded and sank the afternoon of June 10 in the Little Creek cove on Lake Norman.
