In the newly-created positions of directors of local government affairs for Kaufman and Broad, each will be responsible for developing partnerships with local government agencies and elected officials in his or her respective areas. In addition, each director will work with land development staff and neighborhood groups to ensure that Kaufman and Broad's new developments meet the needs of local communities.

Kristine Thalman will handle local government affairs in the Los Angeles area. Previously, Thalman was government relations manager for the city of Anaheim, responsible for development, implementation and administration of the City's intergovernmental relations program. Thalman holds an advisory board membership with California State University - Fullerton, government relations.
John Coleman will work with Kaufman and Broad's divisions in Northern California. Before joining Kaufman and Broad, Coleman was a deputy director, external affairs for the California Conservations Corps (CCC). He currently holds the office of president of the East Bay Municipal Utility District. In the community, he serves as scoutmaster to Boy Scout Troop 243 in Lafayette.
David W. Shepherd will be responsible for local government affairs for the San Diego division of Kaufman and Broad. Prior to joining Kaufman and Broad, Shepherd was director of intergovernmental and legislative affairs for the Riverside Transportation Commission (RCTC)/San Bernardino Associated Governments (SANBAG).
Steven Klausing will handle the local government affairs for the Colorado division of Kaufman and Broad. Klausing is an attorney with a strong background in real estate, land use and municipal law. Recently, Klausing served as general counsel for Cooper Investments and Golden Key Homes, Inc. In this capacity, he was responsible for sales and land acquisitions and oversaw legal matters for homebuilding. Klausing holds memberships with the Colorado Bar Association and First Judicial District Bar Association.
Richard R. Sewell will be responsible for local government affairs in Arizona for Kaufman and Broad. Sewell was formerly director of program development at South Coast Children's Society, Inc. in Costa Mesa, Calif., where he was responsible for multi-facility operations and program development.
Aaron Seaman will handle local government affairs for the San Antonio division of Kaufman and Broad. Previously, Seaman was vice president of governmental affairs for the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. He was responsible for establishing relationships with key elected officials, community and business leaders, and various agency personnel on behalf of the Hispanic Chamber.
